Even though Stronghold Crusader 2 will release in less than three months, Firfly has released a new developer blog post and a trailer which showcases new footage of the game at beta while highlighting new features.

In the blog Firefly details the game's new features, the state of development and how going the self-publishing route has made for a better game; they weren't pressured into sticking to a release date, which allowed the developer to flush out any bugs.

Self-publishing comes with its own set of challenges but one of the great advantages is that we can release when we are ready, when the bugs have been squashed and the game is worthy of the Crusader name. The team has been tweaking areas of gameplay such as unit balance and castle destruction in direct response to feedback received at these shows and it has made a huge difference. Players are telling us it feels like the original Crusader in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay and just hearing that is hugely encouraging.

As seen in the trailer below, the sequel will feature all new sneak attacks, units to command, defenses and new threats.

Stronghold Crusader 2 is now in beta and will release on Steam on September 2nd.
