It's no secret that CCP Games, the creators of EVE Online, have been struggling to create its new vampire-themed MMO, World of Darkness. Since the 2011 statement made on restructuring the company, it was said that:

World of Darkness will continue development with a significantly reduced team. This team will continue to iterate and expand on the gameplay and systems they have designed. We will also redeploy creative teams in Atlanta to support the launch of DUST 514.

However, today CCP announced that the game development has come to a complete halt and its 56 employees stationed in Atlanta are now unemployed. While severance packages have been given, CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson went on record to say:

The decision to end the World of Darkness MMO project is one of the hardest I’ve ever had to make. I have always loved and valued the idea of a sandbox experience set in that universe, and over the years I’ve watched the team passionately strive to make that possible.

Going forward, the company wishes to focus on EVE Universe instead of creating a new project.
