Valve Tells Fans That Steam For Linux Is Coming Next Week

on December 15, 2012 1:14 PM

It seems that diving headfirst into the console gaming arena may not have been enough for Valve. The tech giant announced to a Linux enthusiast mailing list that open beta for a Steam Linux platform would begin as early as next week. While Steam only has about 40 titles available for Linux-based computers, Team Fortress 2 is one of them, so there will at least be hat collecting, beginning I’m sure with some sort of penguin hat to celebrate.

Other than the announcement there is no official word yet on how the new platform will be rolled out, or if Linux users can expect Valve to make more of the other Source engine based games open to Linux users, such as the ever popular Left 4 Dead 2. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see, though it’s not like many gamers will be ignoring Steam these days, with the Holiday Sale coming so soon to suck up their cash.
