Years before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Battlefield, there was Counter-Strike. The original game was a mod developed for the enormously popular first-person shooter, Half-Life. The franchise was developed by two individuals over the course of a year starting in 1999, until Valve assumed primary development of the mod in 2000. To date, Counter-Strike as a standalone game has sold over 27 million copies; further development of the franchise has included Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Counter-Strike: Source, and now, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
This newest iteration in the series will feature updated graphics as well as matchmaking systems and leaderboards in addition to a plethora of maps, characters, and modes; both old and new. Valve recently released their newest trailer for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The footage was designed by the company’s newly released, Source Filmmaker.
The game will be released tomorrow for PC, Mac, and for the PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation Network, and for the Xbox 360 on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The trailer is available for viewing below.
