Modders have uncovered what appears to be the Source 2 engine forming the backbone of newly released Dota 2 modding tools, marking the first public outing for the engine.
As spotted by Reddior RoyAwesome, the new modding tools are markedly different from anything Valve has previously released, with a changed developers console and map editor.
Everything that would share a name with Source is named ‘…2’. That’s ‘engine2.dll’, ‘vconsole2.exe’, ‘vphysics2.dll’.
RoyAwesome also noted that the way the program deals with engine libraries is markedly different from the way the Source engine would normally work.
[It] also allows for different dlls to load and render different assets.
This bit alone would indicate a significant amount of engine work has been done to split these bits out of the engine and into their own libraries.
