Media Create has released their figures for the week of December 26 through January 1, and it looks like the PlayStation Vita is losing the good fight over in Japan.
The Nintendo 3DS is still reigning supreme, selling 197,952 units in the post-holiday rush. The Vita’s sister and predecessor systems, the PS3 and PSP, both sold 67,199 and 62,746 unites respectively. The Vita trails behind them at 42,648 — a 29,839 unit drop from the previous week. The top-selling software for the week from Mario Kart 7, so its easy to figure out why the 3DS is flying off shelves — with steady current of new titles from popular franchises, Nintendo’s little-handheld-that-could is finally blooming almost a year after its initial release. While there are already a handful of titles out for the Vita, including the triple-A prequel to its blockbuster series, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Sony’s handheld has yet to bring its numbers up. Perhaps once more software rolls out — and it is rolling out in droves next year — people will be more willing to purchase the system, much like what happened with the 3DS.
North Americans and Europeans, are you chomping at the bit for the Vita’s worldwide debut?
