Recently, the folks at Eurogamer were invited to an EA preview event on their side of the pond where they had the chance to get a hands-on preview of the upcoming Dead Space 3. During their time with the game they discovered an interesting play option available in the weapon crafting screen. This time around, not only will players be able to collect resources to craft bigger and better weaponry, but in typical EA fashion, they'll also be able to straight up buy the resources needed with actual, you know... money.

Obviously micro-transactions have been a part of almost all games recently but, more often than not, they simply add content. It doesn't necessarily make the game any easier, which seems to be the case here. "You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace...So you don't have to spend [real world] dollars" is how associate producer Yara Khoury explained the addition of micro-transactions to Eurogamer.

This the first time that this kind of micro-transaction makes its way to the Dead Space franchise, but the not the first for an EA title. Mass Effect 3 had content available in a similar fashion. Well at least now you know that if Dead Space 3 becomes too difficult for you, you're only a couple of dollars away from making it just a little bit easier.
