World of Tanks and similar titles could come to the Oculus Rift but not before there are some serious numbers behind it.
Victor Kislyi, chief executive of Wargaming, the studio behind numerous successful free-to-play games including World of Tanks, recently told CVG that though the hardware is capable of handling the load, the VR headset will need to move more than a few units before it will be profitable.
“Oculus is impressive. I can tell you that as a CEO,” he said. “For free-to-play, five to ten million is a good user-base. So if Xbox One or Oculus reach those numbers, we’re there.”
“We are free-to-play, and now even further down the road, we are free-to-win. Seventy-five per cent of our players never pay a penny, and we love those players.”
With Facebook’s recent purchase of the system, the numbers may be obtainable. How long it will take to reach that mark, if ever, is unknown.
