Wii Today, Gone Tomorrow, Nintendo Stops Producing Wii Consoles in Japan

on October 21, 2013 12:41 PM

Nintendo Japan has announced on their official website that the company is no longer producing Wii consoles. In a small label on the Wii’s product page, they has simply mentions that “production has ended” (upper right).  This shouldn’t come as a shock since the company had previously announced its that production would be discontinued at the start of October.

In Japan, the console has sold roughly 12.7 million units since its launch, as well as over 100 million units worldwide. For gamers in Japan needing their Wii fix will either have to pick up the backwards-compatible Wii U or search for whatever stock remains in retailers.
