Wii U’s Latest Update Contains Only Tweaks and Fine-Tuning

on January 12, 2016 1:36 PM

What’s new on the Wii U? Despite today’s unannounced update, not much. Version 5.5.1 U (available right now) brings nonspecific stability improvements and “minor adjustments… to enhance the user experience.” The previous update from just about five months ago removed the Nintendo TVii icon from the Wii U Menu and brought similar stability updates.

What does this all mean in the long run? Given the trickle of content, it may be an indication of the Wii U winding down to their final system software given the impending announcement of Nintendo NX. But given the fact we are awaiting a new loyalty program and unified accounts (My Nintendo and Nintendo Accounts) likely in March, I wouldn’t count the Wii U out just yet. Give your best guesses in the comments.
