[UPDATE: The date of patch 4.2 was just pushed back to June 28 (it's always tentative with Blizzard). The original post remains below.]

True to Blizzard's word, the next patch for World of Warcraft will hit live servers next week, only a few short weeks after the previous patch. Typically their patch release cycle dropped one patch every few months, but now with their "smaller, more frequent content update" philosophy, we're seeing patch 4.2 on June 21, according to the current schedule.

That patch is subtitled Rage of the Firelands, and introduces the first new raid to hit the MMO since Cataclysm launched back in December, as well as the return of one of the game's most notable villains from the pre-expansion game, Ragnaros. For those who might not be into the whole raid thing, an entirely new quest hub will open up in the Mount Hyjal zone dedicated to dozens of new daily quests, reputation rewards and just plain awesomeness. While the trailer focuses on the story behind the patch, there's surely going to be content for just about every play style this time around. Hit the break to check out the trailer. Maybe you'll get goosebumps like I did when the wave of lava destroys Orgrimmar...
