Saber Interactive and 2K Sports' new wrestling franchise WWE 2K Battlegrounds has today received a new release date today alongside the cover art and a new trailer. The release date, announced on Twitter, is September 18 and it's confirmed the game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC (via Steam), and Stadia.

After the critical and commercial failure of last year's WWE 2K20, 2k Battlegrounds will be the only WWE title released this year. The game, which is a more arcade-like spin on the traditional wrestling games is described by 2K as an "arcade-style brawler that brings over-the-top WWE action to new levels of intensity."

The game is confirmed to have more than 70 WWE Superstars (with Mauro Ranallo and Jerry Lawler on commentary) and Legends at launch, with even more Superstars entering the Battlegrounds after release. The additional Superstars have been confirmed to be coming free of charge by IGN. The game has four confirmed modes for you to battle it out in; Exhibition Mode, Campaign Mode, King of the Ring, and online. Like all good wrestling games, WWE 2K Battlegrounds will also feature a Superstar creator.

The new cover art shows a combination of modern Superstars and WWE Legends including The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ronda Rousey, and Roman Reigns. They join a cast of Superstars revealed so far of Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, and Randy Orton combined with Legends including Andre the Giant, The Undertaker, Mankind, Shawn Michaels, Yokozuna, and Sgt. Slaughter.

The game, which has a special edition available, is up for pre-order right now. It will be interesting to see how it does after the disappointment of last year's game.
