Today, Snapshot Games Inc. (Chaos Reborn) announced the development and crowdfunding campaign for Phoenix Point, a turn-based tactics and world-based sci-fi strategy game inspired by the X-COM franchise.

Phoenix Point has been in development for over a year now, under the supervision of David Kaye, founder of Gaming Insiders, and Julian Gollop, designer of the original X-COM. The team is also made up of developers from Ubisoft Sofia and Crytek Black Sea.

Julian Gollop, CEO of Snapshot Games Inc. says about his new title that not only will Phoenix Point take inspiration from the X-COM games that he was involved in, but also those released more recently.

“We are creating Phoenix Point by taking influences from the famed X-COM franchise. We are updating our favorite gameplay features from X-COM titles such as UFO: Enemy Unknown and X-COM Apocalypse that I designed, and mixing them with some of the amazing ideas Firaxis Games executed brilliantly in their franchise reboots, to create an entirely new game whose essence lies in the XCOM genre.”

Snapshot Games is calling Phoenix Point a spiritual successor to X-COM. The game’s plot tells of how the introduction of the alien Pandoravirus nearly wiped out the entire human population. Many others have been horrifically mutated into beings who may organically clone themselves. As a small band of survivors, players will be responsible for bringing humanity back from the brink of extinction.

Phoenix Point is now looking for an overall goal of $500,000.00 on Fig. The first $300,000.00 will be open for reservations of Fig securities to generate a return on the game’s sales. Right now, the game's funding has reached 49% of its goal.

The game is expected to release in Q4 2018 for PC.
