Xbox 360 Elite Loses $100

Hot off the heels of Sony announcing that they were dropping the price of the PS3 immediately, and that the PS3 slim will start off at that low price point of $299, it looks like Microsoft is heading to the front lines to fight this battle.  Several retailers, including Wal-Mart, seem to have ads leaked for the week of August 30 where the Xbox 360 Elite is listed for $299.  (Note: Nothing is confirmed from Microsoft about this price drop…yet.)

If these two giants go head-to-head at the same price point, which one do you think will come out on top from this point on?  Of course, its too early to say for sure, but given the larger feature set of the PS3, it does present the better value as far as hardware is concerned.  It has built-in wireless connectivity and BluRay, for starters.  The PSN is also free to play games on, unlike Microsoft’s Xbox Live (although, arguably Xbox Live is the better service).

Only time will tell, but it looks like these two console giants are now going to be fighting each other in the trenches in head-to-head combat at the same price point.
