While the Xbox One has an appealing selection of features as a console/multimedia-centered device, notably backwards compatibility is absent from its feature set, although recent reports indicate that emulation for Xbox 360 games on the new console is still under consideration by Microsoft.
Speaking in an audience Q&A at Microsoft’s Build developer’s conference last week, Microsoft partner development lead Frank Savage spoke on the matter after a question was raised regarding the possibility of Xbox 360 game emulation on Xbox One. While Savage couldn’t officially confirm whether the existence of developments regarding this, Savage commented on plans for Xbox 360 on Xbox One:
“There are, but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately. It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself.”
