Xbox: Kinect Creators Kipman & Tsunoda Working on Next-Gen Tech: “Magical, Delightful and Disruptive”

on January 8, 2015 5:28 PM

A few days ago, Microsoft’s Xbox Division Head Phil Spencer mentioned that Corporate Vice President and Kinect poster boy Kudo Tsunoda is going to step back into the limelight this year, and today we catch a glimpse on what he’s working on, thanks to new career opportunity ads seeking a Senior Software Engineer and a Software Engineer for the Xbox Division.

We’re a small and growing team of experienced developers and incubators working with truly inspiring new entertainment technology. We brainstorm exciting and ground-breaking experiences and quickly build working prototypes on top of developing tech.   We transform our ideas into reality through shipping first-to-market products.

You’ll help us build magical, delightful and disruptive consumer experiences for the next generation of technology (from the creators of the Kinect: Alex Kipman & Kudo Tsunoda).

You’re a proficient software developer, you love to learn and tackle new challenges and you develop imaginative and elegant solutions that solve program wide issues over multiple product releases.   You’re excited to collaborate directly with artists and designers in a game development-savvy studio. You’re thrilled to creatively apply your development talents building and iterating on prototypes to discover what works best, then leverage your knowledge to create incredible shipping software products.   You’re looking to make significant contributions to the early stages of a project with huge growth potential.

The second ad reads as follows:

Are you passionate about technology, entertainment and software development?   Are you inspired working on new entertainment technology?   Our team needs a proficient Software Engineer II to own the planning, implementation, execution and measurement of quality through engineering scenarios, tools, telemetry and automation.   You’ll collaborate in a team environment with other software engineers directly impacting the quality, reliability and fun of the experiences we ship.

You’ll help us build magical, delightful and disruptive consumer experiences for the next generation of technology (from the creators of the Kinect: Alex Kipman & Kudo Tsunoda).

Become a part of a technically strong and collaborative team at the forefront of Microsoft innovation. Help us pioneer new methods, technologies and partnerships that enable us to deliver experiences that are magical, delightful and disruptive.

The ads don’t give further details on what the new tech will entail, but one does mention experience with Azure or similar cloud services, so Microsoft’s growing cloud tech could be involved.

The fact that Kipman and Tsunoda are explictly named is interesting, as career opportunity ads very seldom indicate who the candidate is going to work with.

Considering that Kipman and Tsunoda were at the forefront of the Kinect revolution, which basically characterized Xbox innovation in the past few years, it’s fairly doubtless that whatever they’ll bring to the table will be at the very least intriguing.

We’ll have to wait and see what it will be.
