Xbox Live Silver Rebranded Xbox Live Free

Everyone knows that if online gaming is your thing, you need to own an Xbox Live Gold account. However, if nothing is your thing, then you’ll be content with an Xbox Live Silver membership. Oddly, Microsoft is renaming the bottom tier account Xbox Live Free.

You know what Microsoft offers for free? Absolutely nothing, and that’s why, figuratively speaking, Xbox Free is the perfect name! The news came after community manager Graeme Boyd tweeted:

Just been told that ‘Xbox LIVE Silver Membership’ will now officially be called ‘Xbox LIVE Free Membership’. The times they are a-changin…

Just so that we’re clear, the free membership is still offering absolutely nothing, it’s just being named as though it does. Perhaps this pertains to the new Xbox.com. I ¬†wonder if they’ll rename the Gold account Xbox Live Overpriced.
