According to a registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, on January 13th Microsoft filed for a trademark for "Phantom Dust."

The mark is filed under Class 9, identifying game software, as well as Class 41, online game software.

Phantom Dust Trademark

It’s worth mentioning that class 41 doesn’t necessarily mean that, if we’re talking about the new game, it will be online. The class is required for any kind of online feature, including smaller ones like leaderboards and similar. Also worth mentioning, Microsoft already has a live trademark for "Phantom Dust" from 2003 also in one of the same categories (Class 9).

The Phantom Dust reboot, which was announced at E3 2014, has been in limbo since the then-developers Dark Side Games shut their doors. However, Microsoft has insisted on multiple occasions that the game is still coming.

Recently, Microsoft has also trademarked "Fragments" and "Roboraid."
