2K Games announced today with a press release the development of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, an action strategy game based on the classic X-Com series of strategy games that holds a special place in the hearts of many veteran core gamers.

The game will be developed by Firaxis Games, that aren’t exactly newbies in the field of strategy titles (having developed the latest Civilization games)

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will again place the player in the boots of a commander of the elite XCOM secret organization, defending earth against the invasion by multiple alien races. Like in the classic series both strategic and tactical elements will be included.

The game will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next fall.

You can’t see the large smile on my face right now, but if you are an old-school gamer like me you can definitely imagine it (and your face probably displays the same expression): it goes from ear to ear.

Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality) and MMORPGs are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth.
