Today Square Enix announced that NieR: Automata passed 1,000,000 shipments, and Director Yoko Taro took to Twitter to thank the fans, mentioning that his English isn't good enough to describe his gratitude:

Don't worry, Yoko-san, we got your back.

"NieR: Automata sold 1 million copies... I can't be thankful enough to anyone who supported it. Really... Thank you... Thank you very much."

Incidentally, Yoko-san continued with his usual modesty, mentioning that the game still has to be released in some Asian countries so those sales aren't included in the million units shipped. Since he thought that the game might have a chance to reach a million including Asia, this is a surprising result for him.

As a bonus, Producer Yosuke Saito also expressed his gratitude, mentioning that it's hard to believe that a million people are playing the game.

Personally, I don't find it hard to believe at all. The game is a true gem, and I'm thankful that this kind of title exists in our industry where quirky games are often confined to much smaller audiences. If you want to read why, you can check out my review.

NieR: Automata is currently available for PS4 and PC.
