Swedish developer Villa Gorilla and Team17 announced Yoku's Island Express, a unique open-world "pinball platformer" today.

Players control Yoku the Dung Beetle, who has come to Mokumana Island, where the game takes place, to become the new postmaster there. Unfortunately, when he arrives, he finds out that an ancient deity of the island is stuck in a restless slumber, which is causing the island to fall victim to a lot of earthquakes and storms. This causes Yoku to set off on a quest to rebuild his post-office and relieve the deity of the horrible nightmares that are causing him to sleep restlessly.

Jens Andersson, Co-Founder of Villa Gorilla, had the following to say about working with Team17 on the game:

"With Team17 we’ve found a publishing partner that cherishes innovation and style – something we recognized way back when we played Alien Breed on our Amigas. We feel that their commitment to quality and fun gameplay is a perfect match for us, and we are incredibly excited to be working with Debbie and the team to finish and release Yoku’s Island Express.”

Meanwhile, Debbie Bestwick, CEO of Team17, had the following to say about Yoku's Island Express and working with Villa Gorilla:

"Yoku’s Island Express has such a beautiful, distinct style with a unique twist on the platform genre. It’s a true gem, we’re looking forward to working with the very talented Villa Gorilla and welcome them to our growing games label family.”
