Open-world platformer Yooka-Laylee is now available for preorder on Xbox One via the Microsoft Store. Those who preorder the game will be granted immediate access to the game's Toybox Demo, which released for Kickstarter backers earlier this year.

Interestingly enough, the title is listed with a $49.95 price point and a release date of 10/04/2017, though each detail can simply be acting as a placeholder.

The Toybox Demo was designed as a self-contained, spoiler-free sandbox to give backers a taste of the platforming to come in the final game. Moves, custom-built props, secrets, collectibles, and NPCs were all included as a small sample of the finished product.

Toybox was intended not only as a means of having backers try out the game's core mechanics, but also as a way of getting feedback on controls, cameras, and movement.

Yooka-Laylee is set to officially release during the first quarter of 2017 for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and Xbox One. It's being developed by Playtonic Games, a group of several former key personnel from Rare during the Nintendo 64 era, as a spiritual successor to their game series Banjo-Kazooie.

Two months ago, Playtonic revealed that the title will be getting a physical release to coincide with the platformer's worldwide launch.
