With Ultra Street Fighter IV just announced, many are wondering about the future of the series with the outset of the new generation. Producer Yoshinori Ono wouldn’t want to stop the Street Fighter series at IV, but there are hurdles to overcome before a new chapter can happen, as he explained as part of an extensive interview on the Japanese website 4Gamer:

I think to myself: I don’t want to stop the numbered Street Fighter series at “IV.” However, thinking about trying to achieve the development of the next-generation console title, there’s a sheer amount of staff and  money needed. Concerning the [amount of] money, even the players using an arcade stick would have to make a big investment.

In fact I was told the same thing at Evo. That being said, we must connect with the players and establish a relationship with them, which is necessary to create the next generation [title]. I hope to be able to say “I want to do this” as soon as possible.

It’s actually quite thoughtful of him to think of the players that may have to buy a new fighting stick for the the next generation consoles. That said, hopefully he’ll manage to gather that large amount of staff and money soon enough.
