A Windows Phone release of Minecraft is on the way, developer Jens “Jeb” Bergensten has announced.

Speaking on Twitter, Jeb noted that the Pocket Edition currently runs on Windows Phone, but still needs work.

Yes, Minecraft: Pocket Edition *is* coming to the Windows Phone! The port runs already, but there’s still much to do before any release.

Windows Phone was previously the only common mobile system which did not have a Minecraft port available.

Last month, Microsoft purchased developer Mojang, in a move which was attributed to an expansion of their mobile sector.

In a second Tweet, Jeb stated that Mojang had already been working on a Window Phone release of Minecraft prior to the purchase.

Let me clarify: With the help of MS, we’ve been working on a MC:PE Windows Phone port for a while, already before MS bought Mojang. Ok? =)
