Chicago based developer Young Horses Games have revealed today the figures behind the first year that their hit indie game, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, has been available. This transparency has given us an inside look at how the studio fared, and the numbers are actually quite impressive.
Phil Tibitoski, President of Young Horses Games, posted an infographic he on Twitter today that showed us these numbers. It revealed that since launching on January 30th, 2014, Octodad has moved 469,735 units to a tune of $4,902,945 in gross revenue – 55% of which has come from PC.
The numbers are quite impressive for a game that was developed by a studio consisting of only nine developers. It’s even more impressive when you factor that each of those nine developers, on average, committed over 130 days of their lives over two and a half years to complete the project. Clearly a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into Octodad quite literally with four emergency room visits during development, but it looks like the sacrifice paid off in the end.
