Your Weekly PVC: Robotic Justice Edition

[Your Weekly PVC is a weekly column by our local toy/merch aficionado Justin Hutchison, talking about new releases and pre-orders in the world of figures and silly merchandise for this week.]

Welcome to Your Weekly PVC, your weekly look at the world of videogame-related plastic products. Unfortunately, this week there are no new good videogame-related new releases; it’s not exactly a strong start for this, but we’ve got some great stuff going up for pre-order, including some figures for fans of the Fate series and Metal Gear Solid.

In the meantime, since there’s nothing game-related for you to buy this week, you can check out MAX Factory’s new RoboCop figma, pictured above. The figure comes with the classic 80’s action hero and his signature pistol, and it’s looking gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what 2chan can come up with robotic Peter Weller up there. Mahou Shoujo RoboCoppu, in all likelihood.

And now, onto the big hitters coming out for pre-order this week.

Your Weekly PVC: Robotic Justice Edition

Play Arts Kai – Metal Gear Solid “Solid Snake” Action Figure

  • Manufacturer: Square-Enix
  • Line: Play Arts Kai
  • Series: Metal Gear Solid
  • Price: 4,390 Yen/$56
  • Release Window: late February, 2012

The latest in Square-Enix’s Play Arts Kai line, this figure features the main protagonist of Metal Gear Solid, Solid Snake, in full battle dress, equipped with his signature SOCOM pistol and his FAMAS assault rifle. It’s definitely MGS1 Solid Snake, as you can tell through his lack of facial hair and use of the FAMAS, which is fine by me. Hopefully Play Arts will make an MGS2 Iroquois Plissken/Solid Snake soon; he looks so much better with his beard.

Play Arts Kai – Metal Gear Solid “Cyborg Ninja” Action Figure

  • Manufacturer: Square-Enix
  • Line: Play Arts Kai
  • Series: Metal Gear Solid
  • Price: 4,390 Yen/$56
  • Release Window: late February, 2012

To match their MGS1 Solid Snake, Play Arts Kai are releasing their new Cyborg Ninja/Gray Fox at about the same time. I’m a huge fan of this design, and I was extremely excited for this when Kojima revealed it on Twitter a few months ago. Really wish I could get my hands on it. The detailing is superb; all of the musculature and armor on the Cyborg Ninja suit is rendered perfectly. Definitely one to look out for, if you have the cash.

figma – Saber: Zero ver.

  • Manufacturer: MAX Factory
  • Distributor: Good Smile Company
  • Line: figma
  • Series: Fate/Stay Night
  • Price: 2,230 Yen/$28.50
  • Release Window: late March, 2012

It’s no RoboCop, but MAX Factory’s still got time to make more Fate toys for the big Fate/Zero anime adaption. This figure of Saber features her black suit from Zero, as well as her weapons, Excalibur, “Invisible Air”-style Excalibur, and Avalon. I’ve never been big on the Fate series, but this seems like another solid entry in the figma line.

And this week’s Unnecessary Accessory Award goes to…

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children – Cloud Compact Mirror

For all of the “fashionable” Final Fantasy VII fans out there, this compact mirror features Cloud’s gaudy wolf insignia, so you can show off your stance on Advent Children while applying make-up for your Tifa cosplay in the bathroom at your local convention. True fans need only apply.
