Zenimax Acquires MachineGames

After acquiring Shinji Mikami’s Tango Gameworks late last month, Zenimax Media has done it again, this time acquiring the European studio MachineGames. Formed in 2009 by the members of Starbreeze Studios, who you may know as the team behind The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay and The Darkness! MachineGames is working on an unannounced project for Bethesda Softworks using the id Tech 5 Technology being developed by id Software.

Once again this is a very interesting move by Zenimax. The Riddick game was very well received, and though it had it’s fair share of flaws, The Darkness was a highly enjoyable game and the original comics have a wealth of content to draw from. I’d love to see them take another stab at The Darkness, or perhaps his associated heroine Witchblade! I will definitely be keeping my eye on this project, and I can’t help but wonder; Who’s next for Zenimax Media?

John is what you might call something of a badass. When he's not writing about games or playing them, he's playing in the Kansas City band "Documentary" and drinking as many different beers as often as he can. He's a huge comic nerd in the best sense of the term, with a particular love for the Creator Owned movement.
