It's safe to say that Mediatonic and Devolver Digital's Fall Guys has become a sensation. While it picked up traction with multiple beta tests, the game officially launched yesterday and had such an overload of players that the servers struggled, and people sadly review bombed it on Steam. Now, the official Fall Guys Twitter account has confirmed just how that overload of players looked. Within 24 hours, the Takeshi's Castle style battle royale game, that was almost called Fool's Gauntlet, had a staggering 1.5 Million players. No wonder the servers struggled to cope.

The numbers were no doubt aided by the fact that the game went down the Rocket League route and launched free as part of PlayStation's PS Plus free games for August. Fall Guys' popularity has been emphasised by the fact that it's sat right near the top of the Twitch charts for most of this weekend's beta and then through launch.

While the servers were shakey, the official Fall Guys tweet confirmed that developers Mediatonic were working on their first patch for the game. The patch will no doubt try to fix some of the stability issues the game had on launch day. Initially Mediatonic disabled matchmaking for around 30 minutes, then disabled PS4 account creation, before scaling everything up. Sadly this still didn't work as over 146,000 people still tried to access the servers while they were offline, causing further issues.

The tweet ends by thanking fans and saying they're listening to all feedback and are "super grateful to everyone who's supported so far!".

The game is out now and free to download on PS4 for the rest of the month. It's also available for purchase through the Steam store on PC. I'd highly recommend checking it out as it's tonnes of fun and the developers are already teasing that the game will be growing even further with future updates.
