With the 2023 PlayStation Showcase just around the corner in May, console gamers are hyped up and excited about the prospect of new games, footage, and hardware announcements. The presentation will be happening on Wednesday, May 24th of 2023 and will be taking place at 1:00pm PST / 4:00pm EST. The showcase is set to last over an hour long, which makes it the biggest PlayStation Showcase yet.

Gamers have been patiently waiting for all the newly acquired PlayStation-owned studios to finish some of the games that have been announced in the last two or three years, and with the presentation lasting over an hour, one can expect a packed house of games, trailers, and even gameplay footage. See our list for the top 10 predictions on the games and development that everyone might be drooling over during the PlayStation Showcase.

10 Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 peter shooting webs at bad guy

This is probably the easiest prediction out of the bunch because it is guaranteed to be shown. Spider-Man 2 already has a release window set for Fall of 2023, fantastic trailers for the game, and a huge train of hype that is pummeling behind one of the best gaming franchises in PlayStation history. Coming hot on the heels of Marvel's Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2 promises to continue the epic gameplay, fulfilling web-swinging, and fantastic fighting systems that the first two games highlighted. Assume that this one will be early on in the presentation.

9 Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth cloud and another character

Not to be confused with Final Fantasy 16 (see below), Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has Cloud and his crew move past the events of Midgar and move to take on a brand-new setting, challenges, and story. Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth should have a release window near the end of the year in 2023. After more than three years when Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released, it is more than enough time for the sequel to hit the shelves. With the prediction window from Square Enix, it is not crazy to think that the May PlayStation Showcase is going to highlight the Final Fantasy sequel.

8 Ghost of Tsushima 2

Ghost of Tsushima 2

This is a more humble prediction as there is no real information that the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima will be present at the showcase. In fact, the game has not been officially announced yet, with the Sucker Punch studio behind the game remaining quiet in giving out much on development. To that end, if it ends up in the showcase, it's more likely to be the official announcement of the game itself, rather than gameplay trailers or in-game footage from more developed titles. If this is the case, likely Ghost of Tsushima 2 will have a small promo or perhaps just a still image that foreshadows the coming of the sequel. Either way, fans of the original have been white-knuckling their controllers while waiting for the sequel and will be incredibly excited to see Ghost of Tsushima 2 coming soon.

7 Wolverine

Marvel's Wolverine logan at a bar

One of the quintessential X-Men and more famous comic book characters, Wolverine is finally being developed into his own, stand-alone game. Currently being developed by Insomniac, the same studio as the Marvel's Spider-Man series, Wolverine. One of the more exciting aspects of the game is its mature-rated content. Its very rare to have a mainstream game have such a rating, especially considering the success of Spider-Man. The game will also be a PlayStation exclusive for PS5 with many fans claiming that the setting for the reveal trailer takes place in Madripoor, although those are just speculation. Overall, fans are going nuts about the reported Wolverine game, and an appearance in the showcase would point to an imminent date that players will be able to SNIKT their claws into the game.

6 The Last Of Us Multiplayer

The Last of Us Multiplayer two people on a rooftop

Many in the industry are calling this game "The Last of Us - Factions", there is no actual-released title for the game. Stepping in as an off-shoot from the original two games, the sequel has little public details and tons of excitement and hype around the new title. However, the game was announced some time ago, with plans to be released on PS4 as well as PS5. Creator Neil Druckman has stated that there is lots more of the story for the world of The Last of Us and, with the HBO series' success, there has never been more fervor for content around the zombie, fungus filled series. Giving a trailer with some details would be amazing to see at the May PlayStation Showcase.

5 PSVR 2: Half Life Alyx

Half-Life Alyx soldiers and the hands are up

PSVR 2, or the PlayStation Virtual Reality 2, was released with not the best slate of games attached. Many fans thought that the high price combined with the lack of first-party PlayStation bangers in games meant that the system was not worth their time or price. However, as the hardware finds it place, adding more VR games, even those outside the PlayStation exclusive area seems to be the right choice. So, to that end, a virtual reality game like Half Life Alyx could be a perfect choice to showcase in this May's presentation. Set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Alyx Vance is humanity's last chance against an alien horde. The game already has rave reviews on Steam, so including it in the showcase might be a surprise but a welcome one that would help bolster the brand with one of the best VR games in recent memory.

4 Death Stranding 2

Death Stranding 2 main character

Death Stranding made a name for itself as Kojima's first game away from Konami and for being weird as hell but still unique and amazing. The original was released all the way back in 2019, and with official announcement that the sequel is in development, it's not insane to think the title might be highlighted in the PlayStation Showcase this May. Featuring an all-star cast, a vast explorable open world, and some completely new and out-there game mechanics, the original game got loads of praise. So, the hype for the sequel with the next-gen graphics and processing is up there too. There is no direct indication that Death Stranding 2 will show up in the presentation, but the timing is right and fans are excited.

3 Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

The remake for Metal Gear Solid 3 has been dreamed about by fans for decades. One of the landmark games of yesteryear, Metal Gear Solid 3 was a beloved entry in the franchise with some fans claiming it as their favorite in the Metal Gear series. With a whole slate of remade Metal Gear games reportedly in development under the company Virtuous, which has had successful ports in the past. Overall, the fans' excitement about remade Metal Gear Solid games couldn't be higher, especially in the world of successful remakes, remasters, and picking up of old franchises. If this remake even makes a hint of itself at the PlayStation Showcase, chances are everyone will go absolutely bananas. Here's hoping.

2 Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16 clive

If you haven't seen the announcement trailers for Final Fantasy 16, you may not understand why there is so much hype around the title. Featuring giant Kaiju battles and of course, Clive, the game promises to be very different from the previous title, Final Fantasy 15. The trailer makes the game look absolutely gorgeous, with settings filled with dense vegetation and awesome level design. The game also moves away from the turn-based combat of its early iterations, and by all accounts, Final Fantasy 16 is an action-filled, button mashing delight of a title more akin to the Devil May Cry style of gameplay. To build on the excitement that the trailers illicit, having a new trailer and gameplay for the PlayStation Showcase would be huge.

1 Mortal Kombat 12

Mortal Kombat 12 scorpion

With the official title coming out at "Mortal Kombat 1", Moral Kombat 12 has a current release window of mid-September 2023. After the successful revamp of the franchise, the new Mortal Kombat game will supposedly attempt to reboot the series while remaining rooted in its excessive violence and competitive fighting mechanics. With eight characters already announced for the base game, the release date and the surrounding hype of one of the greatest fighting franchises around is palpable. Having a new trailer with gameplay footage would be incredible to see in the showcase, and the popularity of Mortal Kombat means a win-win for PlayStation if it shows up in the presentation.
