Update: This story was originally published on August 18, Atlus announced on August 27 a kindle version of the 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Official Comic Anthology. Both the physical and digital kindle version are up for preorder on Amazon Japan.

If you've never heard of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, don't expect me to get into the the game's details in here when we already explained everything.

If you clicked this article, already know about 13 Sentinels, and are an anime otaku you probably know what a Comic Anthology is. If you don't, well, basically whenever a franchise, be it a game, anime, a manga, a movie, or anything, launches, there's a good chance multiple mangaka and illustrators who liked it will gather up and do one of theses. Officially commissioned by the IP holder but fueled by passion, a Comic Anthology will be a succession of short manga stories, illustrations, or short novels, all focused on the same franchise. Celebrating the characters with mainly gag-oriented stories, that may or may not include spoilers. It's the entry level of derivative products, so even relatively unpopular and niche franchises can get them.

It's not a secret, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim didn't sell that much in Japan. Hopefully it'll do better in the west. Atlus West is pushing out some good promotion for it too. It's nearly not as much as everything that was done in Japan before the game's release there. But it's definitely more than what Japanese games usually get. Speaking of which, some might say Japanese games' promotion in their native country reveal too much. I wholeheartedly disagree with that. Despite having covered every single stream, trailer and press release Sega, Atlus and Vanillaware pushed out in Japan, 13 Sentinels' story is still incredibly amazing and full of surprises. But I digress.

The 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Official Comic Anthology will be launching on September 10. And needless to say, we're only talking about a Japanese release here. Comic Anthology books rarely ever leave Japan. They rarely get digital editions too, and none was announced so far, meaning it's gonna be a pain to import, especially in Covid-19 times.

The book will have 14 artists in total.

Probably only otaku used to this stuff would read such an article this far anyway. But note that we're talking about Japanese artists here, who are otaku themselves and have no qualms about sharing or drawing explicit artwork of characters regardless of their apparent gender or age. Click on their Twitter profiles at your own risk.
