13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Will Be Launching in Japan This Fall
Following years of wait, Vanillaware's 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim finally got a more precise release date estimate in Japan.
Multiple Japanese sources reported that Japanese site Dengeki Online mistakenly published today an article revealing that 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim will be launching for PS4 in Fall 2019 in Japan.
The Dengeki Online article was scheduled for March 14, 2019, but was mistakenly published today, on March 12. Dengeki Online has since unpublished the article. However, the article’s description is still visible on Google search results, and on Dengeki Online’s internal search engine. The article’s images are still accessible as well, confirming that the article itself still exists and will be published on March 14. The article’s description says “let’s take a look at the famous RPGs whose new low priced releases are bundled with the prologue demo of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, releasing in Fall 2019″.
The Dengeki Online article covers the 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Prologue demo, and the new low priced releases of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir and Dragon’s Crown Pro. The 13 Sentinels demo isn’t free and there are four ways to obtain it. Most notably, it is bundled with these new low priced releases of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir and Dragon’s Crown Pro. You can find in a previous article everything you need to know about the 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Prologue demo and how to obtain it.
Vanillware announced 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim back in September 2015. Following a trailer in 2017, the game was supposed to release on PS4 and PlayStation Vita in 2018. However, 13 Sentinels ended up being pushed back and the Vita version got canceled. Vanillaware’s director George Kamitani reminded everyone the game is still coming with his 2019 happy new year greetings. Soon after, Atlus published a brand new trailer in January 2019, revealing the names of the game’s 13 protagonists and their seiyuu for the first time.
While 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a 2D scrolling game and looks similar to Princess Crown, the Sega Saturn game which inspired all of Vanillware’s games from Odin Sphere to Muramasa: the Demon Blade, it’s important to keep in mind that Vanillware describes 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim as a “Dramatic Adventure” game. This means that unlike its action-oriented predecessors, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim will have a bigger focus on storytelling rather than action gameplay, and could be compared to a visual novel.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was already announced in the west as well, but with no release estimate, and we don’t know yet if the 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Prologue demo will be coming west or not.
