Sega, Atlus, and Vanillaware released the fourth full-length trailer for 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim. The ADV game, what they call visual-novel like games in Japan, has been announced for years now and is finally launching this November, at least in Japan.

Vanillaware also released new details on some of the game's side characters and game systems. First off, 13 Sentinels' battles actually have three different difficulty settings, "Casual" "Normal" and "Strong".

As you already know, 13 Sentinels has 3 modes. The Battle Mode, the Adventure Mode, and the Archive Mode. Battles are accessible via, guess what? The Battle Mode. All three modes are linked. The Adventure Mode, with each protagonist having their own specific storyline bifurcations depending on your actions, basically show you what kind of events led to the battles in Battle Mode, which is also named the "Collapse Chapter". Each protagonist has a comprehensive route chart of their story to help you, and to show you when the bifurcations happen. And the Archive Mode lets you learn more on the lore, keywords, and items. You can also unlock more info by spending points earned in battle. All the event scenes can be rewatched in Archive Mode as well. If you want to learn more, a live stream recently detailed 13 Sentinels' battle system and some story elements with tons of gameplay. We covered all that in a previous article.

Coming next, Vanillware officially introduced four non-playable characters we saw in previously revealed gameplay:

Tsukasa Okino, voiced by Mutsumi Tamura. Tsukasa is a genius high school boy and the one who created the various technologies used by the Sentinels. He's well versed in time-travel tech too, seeing Sentinels are equipped with it. Because he's smarter than anyone, he tends to not listen to others. As we've seen in certain gameplay videos, or in the prologue demo, Tsukasa time travels and crossdresses to hide his identity, calling himself Kiriko Douji.

Chihiro. Her seiyuu wasn't revealed. Chihiro is a little girl who's always with Renya Gouto (one of the 13 protagonists, the cool guy with the glasses). She always carries a rabbit plushie in her bag. The grade school uniform she's wearing was given to her by Renya, and she's seen jokingly asking if that's his fetish. She can make jokes like that because this Chihiro isn't a "real" kid but is actually Chihiro Morimura, the 31 years old female teacher part of the Sentinels' development team in the future. This Chihiro has her future self's memories and personality implemented in her. As you should by now if you've read our previous coverage, 13 Sentinels not only has time travel but also memory manipulation plots. In the 1944 era, the original Chihiro is also the little sister of one of the 13 protagonists, Keitarou Miura (army legs bandage guy). Yeah, that's complicated.

Kyuuta Shiba, voiced by Yōji Ueda. Kyuuta is the childhood friend of Juurou Kurabe(the most simple looking protagonist), the guy we mandatorily control at the very beginning of the game. Kyuuta is an innocent guy with a mood maker personality. He's into SF manga and movies, and Tokusatsu. Kyuuta also holds a mysterious power.

Miwako Sawatari, voiced by Eriko Matsui. Miwako lives in 1985 and is friends with Iori Fuyusaka and Tomi Kisaragi. Iori is the flower in hair girl protagonist and the second mandatory protagonist we play as at the beginning, before getting to pick the others. Tomi is the twintails glasses girl protagonist. Miwako, Iori, and Tomi often eat together after school. Miwako's worried about her figure. We already saw in the game's demo she ends up accidentally time traveling to the devastated future of 2025 along with Tomi and Nenji Ogata (delinquent protagonist dude).

Next, Vanillaware revealed more on the 13 different Sentinel mecha piloted by each of the protagonists. There are four different types of Sentinels. Melee types, long-range types, universal types, and aerial support types. All have different attacks and abilities.

Specs for the Second Generation Sentinel were detailed. It's an Universal type equipped with close and mid-range weapons, auxiliary weapons, heavy armor, and it weighs 2200 tons. There are three operational Second Generation Sentinel units, unit number 13 piloted by Juurou Kurabe, unit number 14 piloted by Ryouko Shinonome (the Rei clone protagonist), and unit number 15 piloted by Iori Fuyusaka.

Lastly, a new gameplay video was published, showing the very beginning of the game, played by popular SF writer Kouji Watanabe.

In the video, Kouji Watanabe spoke a lot about his point of view on 13 Sentinels as an SF writer. He mentioned how the use of time travel and memory manipulation is clever: For example, a character who gets their memories of the last ten years wiped would be like if they time traveled ten years ahead. Watanabe also mentioned Megumi Yakushiji is his favorite protagonist (straight black hair glasses girl). Mostly because it's interesting how she loves Juurou and ends up doing for her love to succeed. Watanabe also believes Miwako will be one of the most popular side characters. He jokingly said how girls nowadays worry too much about their figures and how he'd rather marry a chubby woman. He added, "I'm a big advocate of this way of thinking".

Some of 13 Sentinels' shop specific preorder goods' artworks got revealed too.

Dengekiya has a B2 tapestry with an artwork of Chihiro Morimura and Ryouko Shinonome, a t-shirt, and a metal charm.

Animate has a B2 tapestry with Takatoshi Hijiyama (Yakisoba guy and anti-food wasting protagonist) and Tsukasa crossdressing.

Sofmap has a B2 tapestry with Yuki Takamiya (Sukeban protagonist) and Nenji Ogata.

Trader got a B2 tapestry with Yuki Takamiya and Natsuno Minami (bloomer girl protagonist)

Oh and Vanillaware also officially and solemnly confirmed there are many different types of food appearing in 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim. Food is important. Each type of food is documented in Archive Mode too.
