3DS Super Mario Bros. Game In Development

We all saw this coming but it’s still always exciting when a new Mario game is announced.

In the latest Iwata Asks Miyamoto confirms what we’ve all expected and announces he’s working on a Mario game for the 3DS. Not much about the game’s content is mentioned but late last year Miyamoto said we’d see a 2D and a 3D Mario on the 3DS. Not counting the DS’s Super Mario 64 DS we have yet to see a 3D Mario game on a handheld.

Miyamoto adds, “I want to show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS.” Interesting that they didn’t push to have a Mario game at launch for the 3DS. When was the last time a Nintendo console had a Mario launch game? Super Mario 64? Again Mario 64 DS doesn’t count.
