The 5 Coolest Regional Pokemon Variants

Featured

October 23, 2021

Since the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon, The Pokemon Company has introduced a range of Pokemon with their own regional variants.

Following Sun and Moon’s Alolan Pokemon, we received Sword and Shields Galarian forms and soon, we will get Pokemon Arceus Legends’ Hisuain forms.

So ahead of that, I’ve decided to rank the five best regional Pokemon variants that we know about so far. Let’s do it!

5. Hisuian Growlithe

When it was revealed a couple of months back, Twitter was prepared to die for Hisuian Growlithe, and for good reason.

Growlithe was already a pretty popular Pokemon from the original games, however, throw in a ton more floor and Hisuian Growlithe became an instant hit.

It remains to be seen what a Hisuian Arcanine will look like, but if it’s anything like Growlithe then it will no doubt have plenty of adoring fans.

4. Galarian Weezing

Galarian Weezing was another regional variant that took the world of social media by storm when it was first revealed.

Debuting in Sword and Shield, this more distinguished, upper-class version of Weezing came complete with a billowing chimney top hat and a magnificent moustache, plus a brand new type combination of Fairy and Poison.

While the initial furore around Galarian Weezing died down, it’s still definitely an interesting Pokemon.

3. Hisuian Zoroark

Another pair of Pokemon with a unique type combination and the most recently revealed is the Hisuian versions of Zorua and Zoroark.

The duo were revealed in an uncharacteristically creepy video from the Pokemon company, which included found footage and an abduction. However, what it culminated in was the reveal of two very cool looking Pokemon.

Their new white colouring really helps to accentuate their red accents and makes them really stand out.

2. Alolan Marowak

For me, the Alolan regional variants are by far the weakest. That being said, there is one that I feel doesn’t get the love it deserves – Alolan Marowak.

The Pokemon gets a brand new darker colour scheme and its bone club is now aglow with green flames on either end. What’s not to love.

1. Galarian Zigzagoon

This is a bit of a weird one as usually, Zigzagoon is an absolute trash Pokemon.

The Pokemon Company decided they were going to go all out with its Galarian form though, changing it to a rockin’ black and white colour, complete with Kiss-like stars around its eyes. Couple that with just how good its evolutions and its shiny form looks and you have yourself a deserved winner of the coolest of all regional Pokemon variants.
