Qubyte Interactive’s 99Vidas has been punching and kicking its way through a Streets of Rage style aesthetic on consoles and PC since its initial release back in December 2016. It has now added a host of new features through a DLC expansion pack.
The expansion entitled The Last Battle brings the fight to two new stages including three new enemy types to wail on. In addition to this, there are also a wealth of visual filters to recreate the experience of playing classic 2D brawlers back in the early 1990s. These include a Game Boy inspired handheld effect which renders the game in a torrent of different tones of green, a monotone manga-style comic book overlay, a pixelated 8-bit rendition, and a classic faded CRT television effect with a rounded screen.
99Vidas is a 2D brawler that pays homage to iconic titles from yesteryear like Double Dragon, Golden Axe and Battletoads featuring a visual style not dissimilar to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. The Last Battle adds more elements to the 4-player madness. Although 99Vidas is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with a Nintendo Switch port in the works; The Last Battle is exclusive to PlayStation 4.
