A New Sakura Wars Game is in Development, But Don’t Get Too Excited Yet

on July 28, 2013 1:37 AM

Ladies and gentlemen, fans of the old and beloved Sakura Taisen (Sakura Wars) franchise, rejoice, as a new game is in development, to be released this fall in Japan…

…or maybe don’t rejoice at all, because as you probably guessed as soon as you read the headline, the game is going to be for Mobage, the popular Japanese mobile and social platform.

I’ll spare you the comments that can be read on 2chan, the infamous Japanese message board where the scan below first appeared, but they’re pretty much what you’d expect from gamers ’round the world in this situation. Only nastier. Guess even Japanese gamers are tired of seeing historical franchises turned into free to play card games.

The poster reads “Sakura Taisen for Mobage: the untold story of a new battle fought by the maidens. Coming fall 2013!”
