According to Some Developers the Wii U is Not as Powerful as 360, PS3
The folks over at GamesIndustry took the time to speak with developers that have had a chance to play around with the Wii U hardware to hear their thoughts on the new console. The general consensus is that it’s simply not on the same playing field (graphically speaking) as the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360, respectively.
“No, it’s not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360…The graphics are just not as powerful,” is what one of their sources (who spoke anonymously to the publication) stated. However, this wasn’t the only person to chime in.
Another developer added “There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.”
Since last year, we’ve seen developers claim that the Wii U was [insert random number here] times more powerful than our current-gen offerings. Now that companies are prepping launch titles it seems that some people are changing their tune.
The team at Vigil games, who are prepping Darksiders II for the Wii U can’t seem to get their own story straight. Last year it was “because the hardware is more powerful and it will have some extra features… the Wii U version of Darksiders II might be the best version of the game” according to Vigil technical director Colin Bonstead.
Then fast forward to this year and Darksiders II director Marvin Donald says, “I think visually, for the most part, it’ll be pretty much the same.”
The words “pretty much” doesn’t make it sound like a confident statement but we won’t draw any conclusions or make any assumptions of our own until we see some real games (instead of tech demos) in action at this year’s E3.
