Arguably, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been the biggest game released within the last 12 months.

The island living simulator exceeded all expectations when it released on the Nintendo Switch and has already sold upwards of 30 million copies.

The game released on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020, meaning that we're now only a few days away from the game's one-year anniversary.

But, fans are asking - What is Happening for the ACNH One-Year Anniversary?

So, what is happening for the ACNH One-Year Anniversary?

Well, currently not a lot. Or at least Nintendo hasn't shared the details yet. The biggest concern is the fact that we're now only five or so days away from March 20, so if they are going to announce anything, it will need to be very soon.

Could something happen for the anniversary?

Plausibly, yeah. It would be crazy that, in a game like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo wouldn't celebrate this milestone. The game has been more popular than anybody could have ever imagined, already outselling every Switch game except for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. When taking this into account, it just seems wild there's nothing that's public knowledge yet.

What could happen for the ACNH One-Year Anniversary?

That's the thing - there is so much scope for celebration within this game.

Although we've just had Festivale, this presents a great opportunity to throw a giant party on the many islands that are out there. Failing that, Nintendo could, and should, release some kind of celebratory collectable items.

For those who purchased and played the game on day one, March 20 also presents an opportunity for Nook and co to present players with some kind of special item, thanking them for spending one whole year on the island (under Nook's grasp).

It's unlikely we'll get anything major without some prior fanfare and marketing, but one year on, Nintendo could also bring back some fan-favourite features to the game, including things like Tortimer's Island and Brewster's Cafe, The Roost.

Whatever happens, celebration or not, it's been a great year in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Here's hoping for many more to come!
