During the earnings call for investors and analysts held by Activision Blizzard today, the company’s CEO Bobby Kotick made a statement about the upcoming shooter by Bungie Destiny, but it was misquoted by several outlets, mentioning that he boldly said that he expects it to be the “best-selling game in history”:

The actual quote was still bold, but not that bold:

[…]Destiny, our new game from Bungie, which has the potential to be our next billion dollars franchise.

Destiny delivers a groundbreaking new universe and capitalizes on advanced connectivity to create a shared world action experience we expect that Destiny will become the best-selling new video game IP in history when it launches across Xbox and PlayStation consoles on September 9.

In addition to this, the presentation also mentioned that the game is “Tracking to record pre-orderds for a new IP.”

The game will hit the shelves on Septmber 9th, so we’ll have to wait until then to see if Kotick will be proven right. Considering how interesting¬†Destiny looks, it wouldn’t be surprising.
