Modern Warfare publisher Activision-Blizzard has denied reports that hackers accessed sensitive player data and game code on December 4, 2022. Admittedly, Activision's internal investigation discovered that an unsuccessful hack attempt had occurred, but hackers accessed no sensitive employee data, game code, or player data.

Earlier reports indicated that hackers had successfully phished a privileged user on the network and exfiltrated sensitive workplace documents. The source went ahead and provided screenshots and what it alleged are the exact dates of the live service seasons throughout Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's lifespan.

"The security of our data is paramount, and we have comprehensive information security protocols in place to ensure its confidentiality. On December 4, 2022, our information security team swiftly addressed an SMS phishing attempt and quickly resolved it. Following a thorough investigation, we determined that no sensitive employee data, game code, or player data was accessed," read the Activision response (via Insider Gaming).

Of major concern to Activision was the report that hackers accessed employee or player data which could adversely impact its reputation. Notably, the company's statement steered clear of discussing the leaked scheduled seasons dating to November 17, 2023. Instead, it affirmed its comprehensive information security protocols meant to maintain trust among players in a promising 2023. It's worth noting that even if the reported dates for live service updates were real, Activision can still change details and dates prior to the release of the updates.

It's also worth pointing out that earlier reports of the hack did not mention player data breaches. It only cited vast employee exposure and game data, which Activision has come out to deny adamantly. Therefore, Call of Duty players have nothing to worry about regarding their personal information or accounts. The employees also shouldn’t fret since we’ve not seen anything shared publicly. Besides, the company has now confirmed that their information is safe.

Call of Duty players will have to wait and see if details in the leaks will come to fruition. The only information that remains undisputed from the initial source is that "Activision did not tell anyone" until the news went viral.
