In a somewhat surprising announcement, Adult Swim Games announced via IGN a brand new Samurai Jack game. The series, which finished its run in 2017, is much-beloved by fans, making this an exciting announcement for many of them. As you can see in the trailer below, the new game takes the trademark style of Samurai Jack and translates it to a stunning 3D world. Give it a look below.

As revealed by IGN, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time takes place just before Jack's final battle against Aku. In controlling Jack, you'll have to fight through several different alternate timelines to reach Aku and strike him down once and for all.

The game is being developed by Soleil Games. The Japan-based studio previously worked on games like Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes and Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker. So, a 3D action-adventure seems well within their range. That said, it will be very interesting to see what they do with Jack and his samurai tale.

This is the first Samurai Jack game since 2004's The Shadow of Aku. That was a PS2 and Gamecube game. Obviously, Samurai Jack is a bit of cult favorite, but Adult Swim has built a solid development studio for its many properties. It's a bit of a surprise that we haven't seen a Jack game sooner.  That said, I'm sure fans of the series are happy the game is coming at all.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time doesn't have a firm release date just yet. Currently, the game is slated for a summer 2020 release for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
