Ali Abbasi and Jasmila Žbanić to Direct the Last of Us HBO Series

Two more directors have been added to the series.

Every new detail about the upcoming HBO series based on The Last of Us creates continued excitement for the show. Today, it was announced that both Ali Abbasi and Jasmila Žbanić have joined the project as directors.

The HBO series is set to follow Joel and Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, throughout the events of the first game. While it’s been confirmed that some moments will “deviate greatly” from the game, fans are waiting on bated breath to see just how far screenwriter Craig Mazin will be taking things.

While Abbasi and Žbanić are set to direct, it’s unclear right now how much of the show each director will be taking. We already know that the pilot episode will be directed by Russian film director Kantemir Balagov, so it stands to reason that the pair might be taking individual episodes.
