While many are disappointed by the fact that Alien: Blackout turned out to be a mobile game, there is still a Alien game for PC and consoles coming from Cold Iron Studios. That being said, how much Alien fans will actually be excited remains to be seen as FoxNext officially confirmed today that Cold Iron Studios' Alien game will be a "massively multiplayer online shooter," a far cry from the cult classic 2014 horror game Alien: Isolation.

This confirmation actually came from within the press release for Alien: Blackout. After discussing the mobile game, FoxNext ends things off by saying "FoxNext Games’ studio, Cold Iron Studios, is also currently at work on a massively multiplayer online shooter set in the Alien cinematic universe for consoles and PC." While we still don't have much information to go on or even a title, we at least now know that the game is still actively in development and unrelated to recently announced Alien: Blackout.

FoxNext and Cold Iron Studios had hinted that the game was an "online shooter" in previous statements about their partnership, but its inclusion within the Alien: Blackout press release confirms its genre and the massive scale the developers are aiming for. It is likely a far cry from the horror roots many Alien fans were hoping the next game would tap into, but I can't help but be slightly intrigued by the idea of a game like Destiny set within the universe of Alien.

There is also a fairly good chance that we will see Amanda Ripley in this game as well. Fox is showing great interest in utilizing the Alien: Isolation and Alien: Blackout character, outright stating today that "20th Century Fox will partner with a wide range of storytellers and innovators to bring this epic chapter in the Alien Universe to life, with even more entries in Amanda Ripley’s story soon to be announced." That being said, this is pure speculation.

If you'd rather play a horror game set with with universe of Alien, Creative Assembly and SEGA's Alien: Isolation is still available for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One and can be picked up on Amazon.
