Right on cue, Pokemon GO players are starting to get stuck into the latest Community Day.

This time, the featured Pokemon is Swablu and its evolution, Altaria.

With a new special move at stake and the fact that Altaria is already extremely prevalent in the PVP landscape, this Community day could be a very important one.

So, let's take a look at the best Altaria moveset, its max CP and how this new move affects the Great League PVP meta.

How to get Altaria in Pokemon GO?

Altaria is one of those slightly more awkward Pokemon in Pokemon GO.

Much like Magikarp, Swablu needs 400 candies to evolve into Altaria, however, this shouldn't be too much of a problem, given the fact that they'll be unavoidable for almost six hours.

Just ensure that you're saving your Candies and only evolving your best Swablu.

Remember, while 15/15/15 IV's may seem optimum, Pokemon GO Hub suggests that Altaria's best IVs for the Great League are 0/14/15 at level 29.

What is the best moveset for Altaria?

Altaria's best moveset retains two of its best moves, however, its Community Day move, Moonblast, now definitely comes into the mix.

Alongside Moonblast, the other charge move you should rock with Altaria is going to be Sky Attack, gaining STAB damage from its typing.

Finally, in terms of fast moves, Dragon Breath is absolutely the best choice for Altaria.

Overall Best Moveset:

  • Fast Move - Dragon Breath
  • Charge Move - Sky Attack
  • Charge Move - Moonblast

Altaria Max CP and Meta Relevance

Overall, Altaria tops out at 2266 CP when it has max IVs and it has been powered up with XL Candies. At level 40, the highest Altaria will reach is 2004 CP, however, you're definitely going to want to keep it below that.

In terms of meta relevance, I'm sure if you've ever battled in the Great League, you will have encountered Altaria.

The Humming Pokemon is a stalwart in the division and is only likely to be more so now it has a Community Day move.

Ranking site PvPoke has it down as the fourth-best Pokemon in the Great League, picking up key wins against some of the division's most potent Pokemon.

It beats the likes of (overall ranking in brackets):

  • Medicham (1st)
  • Jellicent (5th)
  • Deoxys (7th)
  • Sableye (8th)
  • Swampert (9th)
  • Scrafty (13th)

Overall, if you want to do well in the Great League, it would pay you to either get yourself a top quality Altaria, or prepare yourself to face them in abundance.
