While Nintendo's Virtual Console may be dead in the water, retro gaming fans can rejoice in the news that Alwa's Awakening is coming to the Nintendo Switch this summer. Created by developer Elden Pixels, Alwa's Awakening is an 8-bit adventure-platformer ripe for anyone with NES-era nostalgia.

Initially released on Steam in February of last year, the game received a warm reception with many fans complimenting the game's beautiful pixel art and authentic chiptune soundtrack. Similar to its art and music, the core gameplay loop of the title is also inherently nostalgic: the game is very much a Metroidvania in the truest sense of the word, boasting the presence of puzzles, a large map, and plenty of locked doors to keep gamers busy. Whether you're looking to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole or you're simply pining for something to fill the void left by Virtual Console, Alwa's Awakening may be the game for you.
