Update: According to CNBC sources, Amazon will not make an offer to acquire Electronic Arts.

Original Story: It seems like today is another big day in the gaming industry as rumors started to speculate around a possible acquisition of Electronic Arts by Amazon. The deal is set to be officially announced later today.

As reported by USA Today Sports, the GLHF sources have confirmed that Amazon has eventually made an offer to acquire Electronic Arts, one of the biggest video game publishers and developers in the world. As the source claims, Amazon will publicly reveal this acquisition later today.

Currently, there is no information on how much this deal would cost for Amazon, but if the official news comes out, we will probably learn more about it very soon.

Amazon already had its own game studios but except for New World as their most recent launch, the company usually wasn't successful enough in launching high-quality video games. Most projects from Amazon Game Studios were either canceled or shut down shortly after release.

However, acquiring EA is definitely a bold move from Amazon to step into the video game industry more seriously. Regarding the fact Amazon currently owns Twitch as the most popular streaming service for gamers in the world, it probably wouldn't be surprising to see more acquisitions of the video game industry happening from the big tech giant.

Electronic Arts are one of the high-profile video game publishers and developers in the world, owning extremely popular IPs such as FIFA (EA Sports FC), Madden NFL, NHL, Battlefield, Need For Speed, Dragon Age, Dead Space, and so many other video game series.

Electronic Arts was once linked to Microsoft, but the Redmondian tech giant made it clear a few years back that they didn't want to make a move for Electronic Arts. However, the speculation around a possible EA acquisition started a few months back again, with Apple, Amazon, and Disney being the lead customers of the company.

Now, it seems Amazon has already made its offer to buy out Electronic Arts and all its intellectual properties. If the deal happens, it would be the next big acquisition after the Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard buyout by Microsoft. Of course, the Activision-Blizzard deal still needs official approval by worldwide regulators, and the same process is expected for the possible Electronic Arts deal.

We will update this article with new updates as soon as any official news comes out.
