Amnesia: Rebirth is Frictional Games' big return to the franchise that put them on the map. Sure, they helped a bit with A Machine for Pigs, but since releasing Amnesia: The Dark Descent, they've mostly been working on other projects. Now they're back, and it's a great time to be a fan of horror games. Or, at least someone who watches them on YouTube while hiding his eyes half the time. Today, Frictional dropped a sizeable gameplay trailer via IGN. Check it out below.

If you've yet to play an Amnesia game yet, you're in for a treat. The trademark mix of horrifying enemies and puzzle-solving makes for the perfect Halloween concoction. The gameplay trailer shows both off in quite a bit of detail. That first scene lets us see that Frictional still has complete mastery of building tension and getting your heart pumping. Expect to have that constant feeling of near helplessness throughout your playthrough.

After that, we get to see some of the puzzles Amnesia: Rebirth will use to keep your brain working in overdrive. These environmental puzzles require careful thought. After all, one wrong move can easily mean your death. Tiptoeing your way around the game's many traps is going to be both a common thread and a way to keep that tension at a maximum.

Fortunately, we don't have to wait too long to try the game out for ourselves. Amnesia: Rebirth comes to PC and PS4 on October 20. So far, I've yet to hear anything about a PS5 version, but you have to assume it will make that jump at some point. That lighting is practically begging for someone to throw the RTX switch to the "on" position.
