Frictional Games' Reasoning For Delay

At the time of publication, DualShockers had not been informed of why Amnesia: The Bunker was being delayed until May. A statement on social media from Frictional Games revealed that the team had suffered a string of illnesses over the winter period that significantly affected development, prompting them to delay the release.

Amnesia: The Bunker has had its release date pushed from March to May 16.

The fourth instalment in the survival horror series was announced just over a month ago by developer Frictional Games. The announcement trailer specified a release window of March 2023, a window that was surprisingly soon after the game's announcement.

Well, not everything always goes to plan in game development and Frictional will now be taking an extra two months to perfect the game.

Amnesia: The Bunker takes players to World War I, placing them in the role of French soldier Henri Clement. Naturally, Clement becomes trapped inside a labyrinthian military bunker while a deadly creature stalks his every move. Lovely.

As with any Amnesia game, there’ll be a generous amount of psychological horror sprinkled into Henri’s nightmare. You’ll be helping him face his fears as he navigates the death trap that is the eponymous bunker, seeking to survive at all costs.

This iteration of Amnesia is going to be semi-open world, with sandbox elements to increase replayability. Unlike past games, there’ll be crafting elements, and this time you’ll be able to defend yourself in a limited sense as Henri has access to a revolver.

Frictional has promised an extensive suite of lighting and sound tools to add to the game’s horrific immersion and has made reference to the “unscripted” nature of the game, with threats changing from playthrough to playthrough.

Also noteworthy is the “adaptive” element of the creature which stalks Henri. The implication being that the creature’s AI is changeable, attacking you in new ways depending on your past actions.

Amnesia: The Bunker releases May 16 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
