Among Us Glitch Allows Switch Players to Access New Airship Map

There's an imposter in the map settings...

December 18, 2020

There has hardly been a hotter online game in 2020 than Among Us and with its recent console debut on the Switch and eventual Xbox port, it’s safe to say that it will only get bigger. A new map for the game set in an airship was revealed at The Game Awards next week but isn’t slated for release until early 2021. However, as many early adopters of the Switch version have discovered, you can play the airship map right now using a glitch.

The glitch is relatively simple. As explained in a video posted to popular gaming YouTube channel GameXplain, all you need to do is create your own local game, select the airship map, exit the game, host an online game while not selecting a map, have players join, and then you’re in.

While this might seem like an intentional feature rewarding Among Us players’ sense of discovery, it’s pretty clear that the map still isn’t finished so it’s safe to say that it’s more of an unintentional quick look. As GameXplain points out, characters clip through the background and there are a handful of soft lock states that will stop you from being able to continue the game.

It’s unclear how long this glitch will stick around as it’s gaining popularity on the internet and Among Us developer Inner Sloth made it clear during their announcement that the airship map will be coming in 2021. However, if you’re still interested in exploring the space before it’s officially completed, you can follow the steps above.

With or without the airship, Among Us was announced for the Switch earlier this week and is already the top-selling game on the Nintendo E-Shop. In addition to this console announcement, it was announced that the game is also slotted to have an Xbox Game Pass release in 2021.
