Among Us Reportedly Had Around Half a Billion Active Players in November
Research suggests the game is "by far the most popular game ever in terms of monthly players."
Among Us has undoubtedly been one of this year’s breakaway successes. The multiplayer party game sees players split into two teams to either complete challenges or eliminate the opposition. Among Us’ popularity has been driven by its social elements as people look for new and exciting ways to come together during the pandemic.
It’s been hard to browse the web without running into some form of Among Us content, from politician AOC playing the game with friends to its rampant popularity on Twitch and everything in between. While it’s clear the game has been incredibly popular, some new research from SuperData has just suggested that it is “by far the most popular game ever in terms of monthly players.”
The research has suggested that the game had an astonishing half a billion active players across the month of November. It also suggests that “The PC version (which has a $5 upfront price) accounted for the majority of revenue from August to November (64%) despite having an extremely small share of the total player base (3% in November). ” So while it has a huge player base, Among Us doesn’t make a comparatively large amount of revenue, simply due to its player base mostly playing on the free mobile version of the game.
The longer the pandemic continues however, the more Among Us’ popularity is going to climb. Over the last week, a Nintendo Switch version of the game released and climbed quickly to the top of the eShop charts. It’s also been announced that the game will be coming to Xbox systems via Xbox Game Pass and also Xbox Game Pass for PC.
Alongside the new platforms, developers Innersloth also shared the game’s next map, titled Airship, at The Game Awards this year.
